Super Bowl Sunday Bingo
Date: Sunday, February 05, 2012
A large crowd is expected to attend the annual Super Bowl Sunday Bingo on Sunday, February 5, 2012. The bingo will again be held at St. Stan's Church hall, 510 West Street, in Bristol, to benefit the New England Carousel Museum, a non-profit, educational and fun organization.

The bingo is scheduled as a pre-game event, ending in time to watch the Super Bowl football game. The doors at St. Stan's Church Hall will open at 1 o'clock, and the first bingo game will start at 2:15 P.M. 22 games will be played, with a total pay out of $1,225.00.

Packages will be sold for $20.00 at the door. Packages include: the entry fee and the paper package and paper specials for $10.00; two specials, purple and blue, with four strips at $1 each for $8.00 a package; and four quickies at 50 cents each for $2.00 a package. Additional specials and quickies may be purchased. Come early and get your favorite seat, purchase lunch prepared by our volunteer group and enjoy free coffee. Door prizes will also be awarded.

Italian Concert

The American Clock & Watch Museum in Bristol, CT, is honoring the men and women of Italian heritage who contributed so many hours to the clock and watch industry over the years with a special St. Valentine's Day weekend concert on Friday, February 10th at 7pm at the museum. The featured entertainer for the evening will be Salvatore Basile. Born into Italian music 60 years ago in Girifalco, Italy, Basile charms his audiences with his repertoire of Italian love songs. Price per seat is $15 each or $25 per couple. Seating is limited to just 50 patrons total, so make arrangements soon to purchase your tickets. There is something new and exciting happening every day! On Monday, February 20th, come celebrate President’s Day! In our salute to the presidents, kids will have a great time making art creations based upon the popular presidents George Washington and Old Abe! On the 21st, in celebration of Black History Month, join Team ESPN, as Jay Harris, ESPN Sports Center anchor reads from the book “Float Like A Butterfly” by Ntozake Shange from 10-11am. Music on Tuesday will be performed by the Bristol Eastern Jazz Combo from 1-2 pm. On the 22nd, it’s Fetch! Fun and Snow Art! Join us in our Fetch! Lab as we conduct scientific experiments. Then, head on over to our Art Area and make your own snow. Story Times will also be held Wednesday from 10-10:30 am and 2-2:30 pm. February 23rd is Dental Health Day! In honor of National Dental Health Month, visit with pediatric dentists for informative sessions all about healthy habits for terrific teeth! Join us for this all day event as we learn and create healthy smiles.
Friday, February 24th is National Engineers Day! From 10 am- 4:00 pm Children will have the opportunity to work with G.E. volunteers to learn about engineering fun, and to design and construct exciting hands-on projects.

Connecticut's Role in the Civil War ~ 7:00 PM
Date: Wednesday, February 22, 2012
Dr. Matthew Warshauer, CCSU professor of history and co-chair of the Connecticut Civil War Commission, will discuss our state’s role in the issues leading to the Civil War, the raising of troops, and the sacrifices of those who served at the front and at home. Dr. Warshauer's presentation will be in meeting room 1, on the library's lower level. Copies of his book, "Connecticut in the American Civil War: Slavery, Sacrifice and Survival," will be available for purchase and signing after the program. This is a free event with no registration required.

Come to Bristol Public Library on Tuesday, February 28, at 6 for a fun, free, healthy and hands-on cooking demonstration with My City Kitchen’s Kashia Cave. Discover new ways to prepare healthy and yummy meals with your family! Working with your kids and teens in the kitchen is a great way to spend time as a family and help them gain important life skills and lay the groundwork for healthy eating later on. Parents get something out of this culinary togetherness, too — there’s the quality time you’ll share and there’s the pleasure of sitting down at the table together to enjoy what you’ve cooked up!

Kashia Cave is Founder and Executive Director of My City Kitchen, Inc. She’s a native of the twin islands of Trinidad & Tobago. Kashia graduated with honors from the Connecticut Culinary Institute Hartford, CT and The Italian Culinary Institute for Foreigners (ICIF) Costigliole-D’Asti, Italy. Kashia worked as Chef de Partie at Union League Café in New Haven, CT and at the Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni in Bellagio–Lake Como, Italy.

Chef Kashia has received many awards for her community service including; the NAACP Meriden/Wallingford 2010 Community Award, the Meriden Children First Community Champion 2010 Award, Xcel Inc. Woman of the Month, October 2010 award and was named Connecticut Magazine’s “40 Under 40″ recipient for March 2011.

This is a family program for children ages 12+ and their adult(s). The program is free, but space is limited so please register by calling 860-584-7787 x2017.
